Chief of Police Michael Davis set to retire next year

After five years of dutiful service to the City of Lindsborg, Public Safety Director/Chief of Police Michael Davis will retire on or before March 1, 2025.

Davis started with the City of Lindsborg in December 2019 following a nationwide search and affirming appointment of the Mayor and City Council. Davis began his career with the Orange County (CA) Sheriff’s Department in 1991 as a Deputy Sheriff before transferring to the Whittier (CA) Police Department as a patrol officer. Throughout his career, he advanced through the ranks to the role of Captain, the rank he held at retirement from Whittier in 2019 before joining the Lindsborg Police Department. Davis also served in the United States Army and Army National Guard and earned a bachelor’s and master’s degree in business administration. During his career, Chief Davis taught Administration of Justice courses in both California and at Bethany College in Lindsborg.

During his time with the Lindsborg Police Department, Chief Davis led the effort to fully renovate the Public Safety Center, a nearly $1M project that addressed deferred maintenance issues in the facility and planned for its future growth, without an increase to taxpayers. He also spearheaded upgraded technology for the department, including upgraded body & car cameras and in-car mobile data computers, flock cameras, interview rooms with A/V capability at the station, upgraded weaponry and required testing, and fleet vehicles, including a new ambulance and fire truck. One of his first tasks upon starting his role was addressing issues related to EMS; this led to the service agreement with AMR, drastically increasing response times and restoring full EMS service and mutual aid to Lindsborg and the surrounding rural areas. In the last three years, a Detective position was created, and three certified officers were successfully recruited for open positions. He’s also generated hundreds of thousands of grant dollars for public safety needs in the city.

“Chief Davis brought a fresh perspective to the Lindsborg Police Department and led the staff into a new era of community policing,” said Kristi Northcutt, City Administrator. “His ideas, commitment to policy development and training, and his dutiful commitment to his staff in the police, fire, and EMS teams, as well as to all the citizens of Lindsborg, has been admirable.”

A public reception to honor his service to Lindsborg will be announced at a later date on the City’s website and Facebook page. Recruiting efforts to replace Chief Davis will begin soon; information will be posted to LindsborgCity.org/jobs.
