Building permits are required for all structures 120 sq-ft or larger as well as for electrical and plumbing work. Permits are not required for esthetics such as sheetrock, painting or wallpapering, nor is one required for shingling a roof or pouring a driveway.
Minimum requirements for a building permit are as follows:
1. Name
2. Address
3. Sketch of proposed work showing dimensions and setbacks
4. Cost of entire project
5. Name of General Contractor
6. Name of Licensed Electrician
7. Name of Licensed Plumber
8. Expected amount of time to complete the project
The more extensive the project, the more detailed the plans will need to be. It is the responsibility of the homeowner to locate their own property pins. The cost of a building permit will be $15.00 per inspection and $0.10 per square foot.
Payment for a building permit is submitted to City Hall.
