  1. Red Barn Studio Artist-in-Residence: Figurative Painter & Art Center Director - Shannon Trevethan

April 29 - May 13 @ The Red Barn Studio

The Red barn Studio welcomes Shannon Trevethan, Figurative Painter & Art Center Director. She says, “During my time of residency, I would like to isolate myself from familiar spaces and routines to strengthen my art and my spirit through secluded, self-reliant practice. The end result will be a small body of figurative paintings focused on this exploration of leaving the safety of being part of a collective and discovering individuality.” Shannon says she has been “blessed to be surrounded by fellow artists” with whom she was able to exchange ideas. She has been shown in many art venues such as Salina, Kansas City and Hays, KS and at the Birger Sandzén Memorial Gallery. She has a B.F.A. in Studio art from Fort Hays State University in Hays, KS and a Certificate in Residential Planning, from the Art Institute in Pittsburgh, PA. Currently she is the Director of Deines Cultural Center in Russell, KS. Visit her website at http://shannontrevethan.weebly.com/.

Millers direct operations as visitors (ages 13 & up) tour the one-hundred year old mill in action. The sights and sounds of the mill thrill visitors and leave a lasting impression. Area artists demonstrate traditions such as blacksmithing, quilting, carving, rope-making, wheat-weaving, broom making, ceramics and more! This year’s Millfest Quilt Show features beautiful quilts from the McPherson Quilt Guild. Stop to see the display Saturday and create a new block for a future quilt! Live music by area artists fills the air and provides a festive backdrop to the many activities. On Sunday enjoy free carriage rides with Country Boys Carriage of Newton. No need to go hungry as the Onion Blossom serves up delicious fare throughout the event.
