  1. New Exhibits at the Sandzen Art Gallery

    New exhibitions open at the Birger Sandzén Memorial Gallery on Saturday, August 5, 2017, with a reception that evening from 5 to 7 p.m. and artist talks beginning at 5:30. Featured shows include paintings by Mike Hartung of Lindsborg and Ernest Vincent Wood III of Wichita. Additional exhibitions include works by early Estes Park, Colorado, artist Dean Babcock; Swedish prints from the Powers Collection; and a juried show of Kansas Artist Craftsmen Association members.

  2. Red Barn Studio Artist in Residence, Gretchen Esping

    October 10 - November 19 @ Red Barn Studio Museum

    Gretchen Esping, Lindsborg, will be the next Artist-in-Residence at the Red Barn Studio Museum, now through November 19 and will be working on a “Lindsborg Portrait Project.” Her project is creating portraits of various Lindsborg residents. The Red Barn Studio will host a reception for Esping during Lindsborg’s 2nd Friday Makers Street Artwalk, Friday, November 10 from 5PM to 8PM. Her project coincides with Lester Raymer's portrait exhibition. Her formal education was at Bethany College with a B.F.A., an M.A. from the University of Iowa and a Ph.D. in Education from Kansas State University. She has taught art at the high schools in Lindsborg and Canton/Galva KS. She has been a featured artist at the Sandzén Memorial Gallery and the University of Umeå in Sweden, among other places.   3. Smoky Valley Scholastic Chess Tournament

    October 28, 8:15 AM - 4:00 PM @ Smoky Valley Highschool

    No registration fee for Smoky Valley, Mcpherson and Galva students. Format: Six round Swiss, Three Sections: K-5, K-8, K-12. Awards: Team trophies (all sections) to top 3 teams. Individual trophies (all sections) to top 3 players. Medals will be awarded to 4th-20th (all sections). Supplies: Please bring chess sets and clocks. Concessions: (pizza, candy, popcorn, drinks) will be available on- site. Free coffee and tea for coaches. USCF and an unrated section for the parents and friends, if enough entries are made: For those traveling with students, please come play in a side tournament, which will start at 9:15 AM.
