  1. Red Barn Studio Artist-in-Residence: Fine Art Photographer Mary Hockenbery

January 14 - February 11 @ The Red Barn Studio

Mary Hockenbery of Hotchkiss, Colorado, is represented in galleries in the southwestern U.S., in collections internationally, and in many private homes. Mary captures with her lens artifacts of human existence and elements of nature, translating them through her unique world view into images at once striking, symbolic and charming. During her residency, she plans to work away from the Red Barn studio on Tuesday and Wednesday doing “on location photography,” with several of her mannequins. During her studio time Thursday through Sunday, she will work with photography and fabric design. She will also bring a pigment ink printer for both fabric and paper to work on her card line and other mixed media work. Her website is maryhockenbery.com. For more information, contact the Red Barn Studio Museum at raymer@redbarnstudio.org or call 785 227-2217. The Red Barn Studio is open Tuesday through Friday, 10AM – 5PM and Saturday and Sunday 1PM – 5PM.

    January 25, 2:30 PM @ Bethany College

The Real Men Sing vocal workshop at Bethany College expects to draw nearly 900 young men who will spend the day working with music professionals and perform in a free concert on Thursday, January 25 at 2:30 p.m. In its fourth year, the Real Men Sing workshop offers vocal clinics for young men in the fifth through twelfth grades and this year will feature guest conductors from collegiate and high school music programs. Students participate in one of three choirs and clinics throughout the day. As a group, the young men will sing "God Bless America” at the free concert in Presser Hall Auditorium on the Bethany campus. As an added feature, members of the SmorgasChorus Men’s Barbershop Ensemble will assist with the high school group and perform two songs during the concert. Last year’s event attracted 800 male vocalists from over 38 different middle and high schools.
