  1. Jim Richardson Exhibit on the Scottish Highlands

    April 14, 2017, 10:00 AM - July 31, 2017, 5:00 PM

Richardson assembled the exhibit from his visual story about the future of Scotland's moorlands for National Geographic Magazine in its May 2017 issue, which pops up on newsstands and in mailboxes in April. The show will be on display at Small World through July 31. Of his 31 stories for National Geographic Magazine, this is Richardson's seventh on a topic involving Scottish culture or landscapes. For National Geographic TRAVELER Magazine, he has photographed Scotland's single malt whisky country, its islands and skerries, the cross-country Royal Scotsman rail experience, and the Edinburgh Festival and Fringe. He has delivered keynote addresses and taught workshops in British and Irish Isles over many years.

  3. Tayla Mace, Artist in Residence

    May 22, 2017, 10:00 AM - May 28, 2017, 5:00 PM

Tayla Mace, Lindsborg, will be the Artist-in-Residence at the Red Barn Studio Museum, 212 S. Main St., Lindsborg, May 22 through May 28. While at the Red Barn Studio, Tayla Mace will focus on creating a bird collection in which she will try to reach a goal of 100 mixed media bird sculptures. She says, “I feel as though birds serve as a bridge between myself and the rhythmic and natural world. They migrate, they choose partners, they forage and fight…They’re so diverse and yet so similar, all at the same time. Not unlike our own societies.” Mace created her first bird, a Black-Billed Magpie, while she was on her honeymoon in Colorado. She had just “started her research in the ‘birding’ world and this was the first time she had entered another habitat and had seen a species outside of the native flocks she had grown up with.” She says she felt the call to grow a bird collection more and more over the last few months.
